The news about President Donald Trump and his tariffs has been all over the media over the last few days and, as I write this, markets all around the world, especially the USA, are tanking. I’m certainly no expert on international trade and tariffs and time will tell if Trump is or not. Let’s not forget he’s running the USA and doing what he thinks is best for his country. I hope he isn’t but I do wonder if he’s been secretly taking advice from our former Prime Minister, Liz Truss.

2 1/1 Thanks to the terrible state of our roads in Suffolk, in recent years I’ve had to fork out nearly £3,000 to repair our cars after hitting potholes. Only last week I had to spend £1,300 to replace the damaged wheels on my camper van which had buckled and cracked. Outrageous, it’s a camper van not some kind of extreme off-road vehicle. It’s not the first time I’ve had to do that either. A few years ago the same thing happened to my old camper.

Why would you do it? The council’s Conservative cabinet this week disgracefully voted to take Suffolk libraries back under their control. The whole thing was a farce, the council simply did not listen to its voters and railroaded the decision through.

3 1/1 I absolutely love the NHS; it’s been there for me every time I’ve needed it and for my family too. I was born a noisy little baby at Ipswich Hospital back in 1964, a sign of things to come as I went on to make a successful career in broadcasting! A few years later I was in for my appendix to be removed, growing up I was a regular at Accident and Emergency, with cuts, lumps and bumps which necessitated the odd tetanus injection.

I don’t think in all the years I’ve been writing this column I’ve tackled the same issue in consecutive weeks but this week I feel I must. I’ve been a journalist for 40 odd years and as a former BBC journalist, I believe in truth and honesty. So much we see and hear these days is not true. People post whatever they feel online whether it’s the truth or a lie. These posts though do have consequences.
