It was a great reminder of how a fire can break out and how we can do lots to prevent it and, if one breaks out, escape from it. Simple things like unplugging equipment when it’s not being used, planning an escape route, keeping all doors closed, not overloading plugs or extension leads, and being extremely careful if you burn candles or, better still, don’t burn them at all.

2 1/1 Happy Suffolk Day 2025! You might be wondering how Suffolk Day began. Well, let me tell you, it’s all down to the BBC Breakfast weather presenter, Carol Kirkwood. You see, I was hosting the BBC Radio Suffolk breakfast show and on one of the studio's TV screens each morning was BBC Breakfast. One day, Carol was delivering the weather forecast with an unusual emphasis on Yorkshire. On closer examination, I looked at the subtitles and it said Yorkshire Day.

I’m sick and tired of a few beach hut owners, NIMBY’S who live nearby, Felixstowe Town Council, East Suffolk Council and Suffolk County Council colluding with each other to discriminate against anyone with campervan or motorhome. These hard-working people pay their road tax and insurance which last time I checked entitled them to park on the side of the road just like a car. At the moment they are being offered no alternative place to park up.

The two-day extravaganza showcasing the best of Suffolk life saw tens of thousands of people descend upon Trinity Park the home of the show, with it seems thousands of them queuing up for a jacket potato from the internet sensation that is Spudman. No, I’d never heard of him either but apparently the kids know him and couldn’t wait to see him.
