A trio of Stoughton baseball players received Badger Small All-Conference honors. Freshman Saxton Wiest was named second-team all-conference as a pitcher. Wiest had a 3.12 ERA in a team-high 10 starts and 51 ⅔ innings. He was tied for second on the team in strikeouts (33). Both Reign Altenburg and Jaxson Nielsen received honorable mention all-conference. Altenburg was first on the team in batting average (.397), on-base percentage (.512), hits (27). He also knocked in 16 runs.

Five Stoughton softball players earned Badger Small All-Conference accolades. Sophomores Camille Buell and Madelyn Barsness each were named first-team all conference. Buell hit a team-high .429 with two home runs and 21 RBIs. She scored 26 runs and had seven stolen bases. As a pitcher, Barsness had a 2.72 ERA with 212 strikeouts. She hit .317 with one home run and 10 RBIs.Both sophomores Emily Matheny and Chloe Buell received second-team all-conference accolades.

Head coach Chris Mitchell was shocked after the Oregon girls soccer team’s 10-year streak of state tournament runs came to an end. Seventh-state ranked Madison West upset third-ranked and top-seeded Oregon 2-1 in a WIAA Division 1 sectional championship on Saturday, June 14, at the Verona Soccer Stadium. The Panthers (16-4-1) were the Division 2 state champions last season. Oregon got bumped up to Division 1 and lost to the Regents for the second time this season.

Oregon senior Addison Werth had a rematch against Waunakee circled on her calendar. She missed two previous games against the Warriors the past two years recovering from two concussions. Werth made up for lost time scoring two goals to power the Oregon girls soccer team to a 4-0 win over Waunakee in a WIAA Division 1 sectional semifinal on Thursday, June 12, at Huntoon Field. Werth was excited to play against the Warriors, who were Division 1 state qualifiers last year.

For the second straight year, Verona sophomore Ty Tennison closed his season at the WIAA Division 1 state tournament. Tennison (16-9), who received a No. 16 seed as a special state qualifier, reached the second round at singles at the state tournament on Thursday, June 5, at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison. Tennison defeated Beloit Memorial senior Alex Funk in a first-round match 6-2, 7-5. He then won six games and lost a second-round match to Appleton West junior Truman Vogel 6-3, 6-3.
