    A Memorial Day event will be held at Veterans Park at 119 N. Main St., Kannapolis, Monday, May 26. A procession will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Main Street followed by a program at noon in Veterans Park. There will be a keynote speaker, and the ceremony will also include special music performances. The event is hosted by the Beaver-Pittman American Legion Post 115, the Poston-Perkins Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8989, the American Legion Auxiliary and the city of Kannapolis.

    CONCORD - Cabarrus Superior Court Judge Steven Warren granted a temporary restraining order preventing Lamarie Austin-Stripling from taking office until a suit against Cabarrus County Commissioners can be heard. The ruling was filed Wednesday afternoon. Austin-Stripling was appointed to replace Commissioner Chair Chris Measmer, who was appointed to replace Sen. Paul Newton. Warren said Measmer had not resigned his commission seat therefore there was no commissioner's vacancy to replace.
