Grand Island, Neb. — With temperatures plummeting over the next week, the Grand Island Police Department is wanting to remind residents that vehicle thefts typically rise this time of year. In fact, GIPD has received reports of seven stolen vehicles since Monday, December 30. They have since recovered six of the vehicles and have suspects for all seven of the thefts. However, it’s the nature of the thefts that is prompting this annual warning.

Like a family reunion you wish would never end, the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup is over. Now the speculation of when, where and who for the 38th edition begins. The past few weeks, like the blazingly fast foiling monohulls that “fly” over the course at warp speed, this event seemed to end as soon as it began. Barcelona, hosting the Cup races for the third time, outdid itself, and is certainly in the running for a fourth opportunity.

Not in DecemberRichmond Yacht Club announced a change from the original schedule. “I want to make sure that everyone has gotten the update that our Small Boat Midwinters schedule has changed due to the holidays this year,” writes Robin Van Vliet. “The new schedule is: January 5, February 2, March 2 and April 6. As a result of this shift in the schedule, RYC will not hold a Big Dinghy in April.

We are now on Match Point at 6-2 with Emirates Team New Zealand ready to pull off a historic hat trick of winning the America’s Cup three times in a row. Actually, they will have won the Auld Mug once and are now defending it twice, but that is a point of minutia for the historians to debate as the New York Yacht Club won the Royal Yacht Squadron Cup once and defended the Cup 23 times, but never “won” the America’s Cup.

The first weekend of the 37th Louis Vuitton America’s Cup has produced very few surprises as Emirates Team New Zealand put the first three races against INEOS Britannia in the bag in dominant fashion. That said, Barcelona will certainly set records for fan attendance in the multiple Mixed Zones in the city, as the Catalonian capital makes a strong case to return as the host venue for the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron if their team defends the America’s Cup.

After our last-minute news story on here’s the full wrap of last week’s Louis Vuitton Cup final. It’s all on as the British are coming to an America’s Cup Match Final for the first time since 1964, when Sovereign got clocked by Constellation, representing the New York Yacht Club, 4-0 and wasn’t even that close. This time, though, INEOS Britannia genuinely surprised everyone with a noticeable increase in speed and performance both on and off the water.
