STERLING, Colo. — The Western Nebraska Community College softball team extended its win streak to nine games in dramatic fashion Monday afternoon. Mykah Klumpp hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning to tie the score and the Cougars went on for a 4-3 win in the second game of a doubleheader and sweep Northeastern Junior College. Kayli Cooper picked up the win in both games for the Cougars as the sophomore had 14 strikeouts in 13 innings of work on the day.

The Western Nebraska Community College softball team extended its streak to seven games with a doubleheader sweep of Northeastern Junior College at Volunteer Field that took less than three hours to play. The Cougars won the opener 10-0 behind a Kayli Cooper's one-hitter. Cooper also got the win in the second game, a 9-1 victory which went only five innings as well. WNCC (17-21) moved to 8-6 in conference play with the sweep.

GERING — One of the top hurdlers in the state, and a leader on the Gering girls soccer team are both going to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level. The Bulldogs' Creighton Beals and Allison Herbel both recently made their decisions official during signing ceremonies at Gering High School, and are among the local student-athletes who have made college commitments in the late winter to early spring months.

The Western Nebraska Community College softball team extended its winning streak to five games with a doubleheader sweep Tuesday afternoon at Volunteer Field. Sierra Hilgner had two hits and three RBI as the Cougars downed Lamar Community College 8-3 in the opening game, and then Randi Mitchell had a double and triple as part of WNCC's 13 hits in a 12-2 victory in five innings. WNCC (15-21) moved to 6-6 in conference play and faces Northeastern Junior College on Friday.
