    Taylor’s boys basketball team had bolted to a 4-0 start this season winning by an average margin of nearly 27 points per game. Friday night, in their Hoosier Heartland Conference opener against Delphi at Center Court, the Titans stuck right to that trend. A strong offensive scoring trio, defensive prowess, and a big third quarter gave Taylor all it needed to breeze past the Oracles, 61-33.

    CONVERSE — Eastern’s boys basketball team found itself on the wrong side of a big bounce-back game Tuesday night. Just three days removed from Oak Hill’s 40-point loss to Manchester, the Golden Eagles spoiled the Comets’ season opener, using a pair of big first-half runs to open up a 38-22 halftime lead. From there, Oak Hill’s lead swelled to 20-plus points for most of the third quarter and upwards of 30 over the final eight minutes on the way to downing Eastern by a final count of 73-41.

    KOKOMO — Northwestern’s boys basketball team shook off a sluggish start, found its footing during a big second quarter, and held on late to top visiting Pioneer 38-32 in Tuesday’s season opener, the first meeting between the squads since 2009. Trailing for most of the final three quarters after a hot start, the Panthers pulled within a score with 1:15 showing when Micah Rans hit the second of two free throws to get Pioneer within 35-32.
