Albany's Abraham Nova and Schenectady's Jahyae Brown both won Saturday night in the first boxing card at Boston's Fenway Park since 1956. Nova stopped German Ivan Meraz of Mexico in the third round of their scheduled eight-round super featherweight bout. Brown earned an eight-round unanimous decision over Khiary Gray of Worcester, Mass. in a super welterweight fight. Article continues below this adNova (24-3-1) snapped a three-fight winless streak. Brown (17-2) won his fourth straight bout.

The Albany Patroons have lost only once at Washington Avenue Armory this season. They need to win on back-to-back days at their home Armory to advance in The Basketball League playoffs. Article continues below this adAfter dropping Game 1 in Maryland on Thursday night, the Patroons come home for Game 2 against the Capital Seahawks at 3 p.m. Sunday in the TBL Northeast Conference Finals. If Albany wins Sunday, it will force a deciding Game 3 at 7 p.m. Monday in the Armory.

Albany boxer Abraham Nova, who fought for a world title in 2024, is without a full-time promoter after his contract with Top Rank ended. Nova will continue his career on Saturday with a fight at Fenway Park, the home of the Boston Red Sox, hosting its first boxing card since 1956. He’ll fight German Ivan Meraz of Mexico in a super featherweight bout scheduled for eight rounds.

ALBANY - Albany Patroons guard Denzel Banks played in college for former Siena basketball great Marc Brown. They even played together. Brown, head coach at Division III New Jersey City University, played pickup ball until hanging up his sneakers five years ago at age 50.
