Well that’s it from us for another week and we leave you dear reader with a new video from arguably the greatest singer-songwriter Australia has ever produced (with the possible exception of Barry Humphries). ‘Hello Melancholy, Hello Joy’ is taken from last year’s album “Fever Longing Still” which AUK’s Graeme Tait waxed lyrical about at the time of its release. Well that’s it from us for another week dear reader. In the waning months of the previous millennia, Joe Pernice wrote and recorded what would become Chappaquiddick Skyline which New West Records have recently rereleased for the first time in 25 years via a limited edition pressing on vinyl – more details here. Chappaquiddick Skyline was released following the Pernice Brothers’ critically acclaimed Sub Pop debut “Overcome by Happiness”.

Well that’s it from us for another week and we leave you dear reader with a new video for a song from the new album by Charley Crockett “Lonesome Drifter” which we glowingly reviewed earlier this week, saying that “This vibrant, confident and thoroughly engaging record may just be his best so far.” Pick of the crop for me is this tune which trundles along nicely before a banjo kicks in midpoint and the tempo moves up a notch, as always the video is a hoot too.

Well that’s it from us for another week and we leave you dear reader with a short but sweet track from the new album from Scottish singer/songwriter and AUK poll winner on more occasions than we can count, Dean Owens. “Spirit Ridge” is Celtic Music Radio’s album of the week, starting tomorrow (March 15th – 21st) and he appears on the community station’s hour-long Album of the Week Show at midday.

Editing an americana site for the last 24 years, one of the things I often get asked is the age old question “what is Americana?” and while not particularly having an answer, I commented on our 20 year anniversary that if I was to pinpoint one thing that’s changed since the late 1990s it’s that sense of quirkiness which you used to get with bands like The Handsome Family and Silver Jews – I mean you still do with the Handsomes of course but there’s not enough of it around.

We’re always happy to share new material from Newcastle’s Attention Seekers who have just realised a superb new song recorded in the Cluny Studios there. Lead singer Alan Fish told us: “Having personally worked in the TV & Film industry I can safely say that there is no shortage of songwriting material on any film set.
