    Somehow, a ‘Star Wars’ (1977–ongoing) parody seems perfectly in line with the rest of Bruno Dumont’s oeuvre. The filmmaker behind a dire drama about evil punks (The Life of Jesus, 1997), a meditative crime tragedy (Humanité, 1999) and a Joan of Arc duology (Jeannette: The Childhood of Joan of Arc, 2017, and Joan of Arc, 2019) has long been investigating the Manichaeism undergirding the nearly 50-year-old franchise’s extraterrestrial battles.

    Michael Asher: a comedian of the first order. His artworks – mostly discrete commissions – render their prompts ridiculous and expose their underlying ironies. They obviate post hoc commodification, eschewing authorship in their final presentation. Take his contribution to the September 1975 issue of Vision – on view in Asher’s current survey at Artists Space, New York – which invited artists to ‘show whatever they wanted to represent themselves’.

Chloe Stead Every year, I express disappointment in the performances I’ve seen, but this year, I finally encountered an example of the gritty body art performance I’d been missing. I didn’t think I cared for Young Boy Dancing Group because they seemed gimmicky – something for Instagram. But this August, I attended a self-titled performance they did in the courtyard of an empty apartment block in Berlin and was blown away.

Country music was always on the radio. That lifestyle has always rung true for me, and country music – written by people, for people – caters to the blue-collar way of life.
