Craft artisans from across Ontario will be available to you in Buckhorn May 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and May 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is the Spring Craft Show at the Buckhorn Community Centre on the Victoria Day weekend. Enjoy a spring walk through the 11 outside pavilions. Check out the main building, with all the traditional items such as wooden crafts, candles, butter tarts, jewelry, garlic, garden signs plus new items. Yes, there are new craft exhibitors again this year.

Last December when you checked your groceries at Buckhorn Foodland, you were asked to make a monetary donation for the Trent Lakes Outreach Centre. Those donations are now being accounted for. What was donated by customers, $1,284.56, was doubled by Sobeys. So between the customers of Buckhorn Foodland and Sobeys, $2,569.12 was given to the Trent Lakes Outreach Centre. Trent Lakes Outreach Centre (TLOC) runs a food bank once a month, run entirely by volunteers and donations.

To get the story on the ice storm, I accessed Hydro One media relations. I received statistics for Peterborough and the surrounding area. As of last Thursday, crews have restored power to more than 99.6 per cent of customers since the start of the generational ice storm that started March 28 at 11 p.m. Through widespread and significant damage, crews worked tirelessly to make repairs and rebuild local electricity infrastructure. They restored 1,434 outages and about 110,480 customers.

Two candidates — Conservative and Liberal — plus 150 people filled the room with questions and answers at the Buckhorn Community Centre during the All Candidates Meeting, April 14, organized by the Buckhorn Ratepayers Meeting. This writer chaired and organized the event. I welcomed everyone as new members of the Haliburton—Kawartha Lakes Riding and introduced the moderator, Mayor Terry Lambshead, who reviewed the format and introduced the candidates.

Community Care could use your volunteer energy to do drives for clients, deliver groceries, perform home maintenance tasks, or provide support at reception and in the office.
