“Just try again,” doctors told me and my partner, Mike, both broken after a miscarriage just days before our 12-week scan in October 2021. “It’ll be fine.” Although I wanted to believe them, our road to even contemplating having a baby together had been so higgledy-piggledy, I couldn’t see it straightening out any time soon. Mike and I began dating in November 2019 after meeting at that summer’s Wilderness Festival, and when lockdown hit he moved from Margate into my east London home.
