May 27, 2025 Planting Weeping Willows Weeping willows are wide and tall with graceful curtains of drooping branches that sweep the ground. I have several groves of weeping willow trees growing at my farm, one that includes more than 25 in a marshy area along one side of a hayfield. I decided to add more weeping willows in this location to create an allée leading to my pond. Unlike many other trees, weeping willows don't mind wet surroundings.

Among my favorite events of the year is the Trade Secrets Garden Tours and Rare Plant & Garden Antiques Sale - it's one of the few events that goes on my calendar every year. This past Sunday, a group of colleagues and friends accompanied me to the event in the picturesque town of Lakeville, Connecticut. The philanthropic sale draws growers, dealers, and artisans together to sell unusual plants, garden antiques, and other unique outdoor objects.

May 16, 2025 May at the NYBG There's no better place to find gardening ideas and inspirations than at a botanical garden, especially the New York Botanical Garden - a national historic landmark and major educational institution. If you haven't yet been to the NYBG, I encourage you to visit. There’s always something beautiful to see - right now, its perennial plants collection, herbaceous peonies, and many of its mature trees, shrubs, and hedges are lush with spring growth.

May 15, 2025 My Hosta Garden There's always something to admire in the gardens, even on a day of ground soaking rains. Five years ago I planted hundreds of hosta plants down behind my chicken coop yard and across the carriage road from my allée of lilacs. I first got the plants as bare-root cuttings and kept them in a cold frame for several months until they were big enough to transplant.

Martha's twirl-able take on pasta salad is the perfect summery dish. After a few hours of chilling to let the flavors meld, the salad is finished with feta cheese and fresh parsley. https://t.co/ISCBErPG0A

Make one of Martha's favorite dishes for an elevated meal that is sure to impress. Sole à la meunière is a classic French dish traditionally made with Dover sole and sautéed until golden brown. https://t.co/sw5E0bNABg
