1. Introduction Hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) is the most common lethal cardiac malformation in newborns. Norwood (NW) palliation stage I with either a modified Blalock–Taussig shunt (MBTS) or a Sano shunt is considered initial palliation in these patients.
