Release of police body camera footage is a big issue around the country, not just in Anchorage. A few months, ago I listened to a Reveal podcast regarding Lexipol, a private consulting company that has contracts with a large percentage of police departments around the country. It appears the main function of Lexipol is to protect local police departments from liability via diversion, delay and obfuscation.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has now become ‘old news,’ receiving far fewer headlines these days than the Israeli- Hamas war. I happened to be working in Kiev in 2001 when the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks occurred. The following day, upon arriving for work most of our Ukrainian staff were in tears and hugged us few Americans in condolence.

AbstractAssay for Transposase Accessible Chromatin by sequencing (ATAC-seq) accurately depicts the chromatin regulatory state and altered mechanisms guiding gene expression in disease. However, bulk sequencing entangles information from different cell types and obscures cellular heterogeneity. To address this, we developed Cellformer, a deep learning method that deconvolutes bulk ATAC-seq into cell type-specific expression across the whole genome.

It happens I was working a contract in Kyiv on Sept. 11, 2001, when the Twin Towers were attacked by terrorists. It was evening there, and a colleague and I were working late that day. We were two of the five Americans on our staff, and the remaining 20-plus colleagues were all Ukrainian. I never travel without a small shortwave radio, being a newsaholic addicted in particular to the BBC World Service since 1973. We heard the tragedy unfold as soon as the first tower was struck.
