A vacant building on the 1700 block of W. Hadley Avenue was damaged by fire Saturday, April 5, 2025. The Las Cruces Fire Department was dispatched to the structure fire just before 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Firefighters encountered heavy fire coming from the building when they arrived. Bystanders reported seeing a person inside the building earlier, but a quick search of the building resulted in no one located within the structure. Firefighters bought the fire under control within 25 minutes.

Police have learned of several fake GoFundMe accounts that are circulating in the wake of Friday’s mass shooting. Police encourage those who wish to donate to a GoFundMe account, or any crowdfunding platform, to properly vet or evaluate the source before donating.

The incident, which reportedly happened at Young Park in Las Cruces, took the life of a Centennial High School student and injured many others, including some LCPS students.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested Sunday afternoon for his involvement in Friday’s shooting at Young Park. About 12:20 p.m. Sunday, March 23, police arrested a 15-year-old boy and charged him with three open counts of murder. The three previous arrests on this case – two 17-year-old boys and 20-year-old Tomas Rivas – all face the same charges. Additional charges are pending for all suspects. The three juveniles are incarcerated in the juvenile section of the Dona Ana County Detention Center.

The Family Assistance and Resource Center is intended for anyone impacted by Friday’s tragedy at Young Park – whether they are a victim, relative of a victim, were present during the shooting or just need to seek support from any of the participating community organizations.

Las Cruces police are investigating a mass-shooting that occurred Friday evening at Young Park. Shortly after 10 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2025, Las Cruces police and fire personnel were dispatched to the reports of gunfire and possible gunshot victims near the parking lot of Young Park, 850 S. Walnut St.Officers arrived and learned of multiple gunshot victims. Most were transported to local hospitals. Some were taken to University Medical Center of El Paso.
