    SANTA FE, N.M. – The Bureau of Land Management New Mexico State Office today opened a 30-day public scoping period to receive public input on 32 oil and gas parcels totaling 20,479 acres that may be included in a January 2026 lease sale in New Mexico and Oklahoma. The comment period ends June 11, 2025. Leasing is the first step in the process to develop federal oil and gas resources.

    The Officer-involved Incident Task Force continues to investigate Thursday morning’s shooting on the 900 block of Walnut Street that resulted in the death of one man and non-life-threatening injuries to another. The incident occurred about 6:30 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2025. At this point in the investigation, detectives have yet to confirm the identity of the deceased. The Las Cruces Police Department officer involved in the incident was not injured.
