It was like this. I decided that my front door needed repainting. I’ve lived here for over 20 years and in all that time, I can’t remember repainting the front door.

Martin Field: Spring has truly sprung in Salisbury Spring has truly sprung. The happy confluence of Mothering Sunday, clocks changing and some settled warm weather, ending what was one of the dryest March’s on record, has not only brought spring flowers and trees into bloom but has put a spring into many a step. I’m writing this on Monday, in the late afternoon sunshine, sitting on my patio in a T shirt. Last week at the same hour, I was in winter coat, hat, scarf and gloves.

Field of View: My attempts at 'growing my own' veggies I guess it was inevitable. Recent good weather, time on my hands, a garden in need of TLC and the prospect of living on a pension meant it was time to ‘grow my own’. Once the garden was no longer required for a children’s playground, it’s main purpose had been to provide a backdrop for drinking wine on the patio.

A sunny Sunday Salisbury afternoon. An after lunch stroll into to town to enjoy the dry but cold weather. The stone on the cathedral glowing in the low winter light bringing out the richness of the stonework. We weren’t alone. Teenagers gathering in groups, impervious to the biting wind. Everyone else had donned coats, hats, scarves and gloves. Not so Salisbury’s younger residents: coatless, bare midriffs and T shirts. Sunday family shoppers. Stores report that Sunday is their second busiest day.
