Starting from a young age, Camryn Zotalis was immersed in skiing. She was involved in learning and skiing regularly as early as 5 years old. Now as a senior at Red Wing, she’s continued to ski alpine competitively for the Northfield co-op and for FIS (International Ski Federation) club. She’s coached youth as well. Her appetite for skiing seemingly has no limits. While getting into it more often, she took notice of the alpine skiers. “The older girls” made it look effortless.

Keegan Knutson always had aspirations for football and making the sport his focus. His goal of course, to continue as long as possible. After playing for Red Wing and being an important factor for the team the past two seasons, Knutson will play on at St. John’s. It was a decision before his junior year that he said changed his football skills for the better; he joined track and field. “I knew going into my junior and senior year I wanted to make bigger strides,” he said.

The Red Wing girls golf team hosted Winona and Mankato East for a Friday triangular at Mississippi National Golf Links. The Wingers won the event with a score of 358. Hallie Johnson had the top score among all individuals with an 81. She had five pars on the back nine and a birdie on the par-5 10th. Annie Reinitz shot an 89, beginning her round with three straight pars. Chandler Warner ended with a 93, making a birdie on the par-3 sixth. Brooklyn Lexvold had a 95.

Goodhue scored in bunches in an 8-0 win over Fillmore Central on Friday. The Wildcats scored three in the second inning, and four in the fourth. Jacob Melson and Garret Boldt each drove in two RBIs for the Wildcats. Sean Matthees, Luke Roschen, Marcus Young and Michael Roschen each drove in an RBI. Melson, Young and Michael Roschen had two hits apiece. The Wildcats had four pitchers combine to limit Fillmore to five hits. Hayden Holm had the longest outing, going 2 2/3 innings.

Albert Lea cruised to a sweep of Red Wing with two double-digit wins, 13-2 and 15-3, on Thursday. In the first game, the Wingers fell behind 3-0. They got one back in the bottom of the third on Molly Jacobson’s solo home run. The Tigers responded with a five-run fourth to take an 8-1 lead. Red Wing again scored in the sixth on Khloe Prall’s RBI-single. Prall had two of the team’s five hits. Jacobson’s home run was her second of the season.
