The recent CrowdStrike fiasco has many asking whether they might be better served by not regularly applying software and security updates. To recap, CrowdStrike is the vendor of endpoint protection software (similar to McAfee or Norton, but more effective at detecting and blocking modern cyberthreats). In July, CrowdStrike released a buggy update which, ironically, crashed most systems protected by its software. Essentially, a bad line of code caused a crippling worldwide outage.
