    THE Moonraker Forest Rally, the second round of the Irish Forest Rally Championship, was hotly contested with the lead changing on three occasions before Cashel's Pat O'Connell and his Mitchelstown co-driver Mark Wiley took their Ford Fiesta R5 to a three-second victory. Tyrone's Niall McCullagh/Ryan McCloskey (VW Polo GTi R5) were second and a mere 0.5 of a second ahead of Ballygawley's Vivian Hamill (Ford Fiesta Rally2) and his Wexford co-driver Gary Nolan.

    WITH the fastest times on today's pair of stages - a double run over the Ivy Hill stage near Aughnacloy - Ballylickey's Keith Cronin and Killarney's Mikie Galvin (Citroen C3 Rally 2) lead the Circuit of Ireland by 9.2 seconds. The reigning Irish Tarmac champions proved best on what was a wet and slippery stage with copious amounts of standing water.

    KEITH Cronin didn't have the outcome he wanted or needed in last weekend's Carlisle Rally, the second round of the Probite British Rally Championship where he finished fourth overall. The event was won by the reigning Junior World Rally champions Romet Jurgenson and Siim Oja (Ford Fiesta Rally2) who secured their first-ever rally victory. The Estonians finished 14.4 seconds ahead of the Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 of opening round winners William Creighton/Liam Regan (Toyota GR Yaris Rally2).

    WITH just a six-day turnaround since their British Rally Championship outing on the Carlisle Rally, the reigning Irish Tarmac Rally champions – Ballylickey's Keith Cronin and Killarney's Mikie Galvin – are back in action this weekend on the Circuit of Ireland Rally, the second round of the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship. Their Citroen C3 Rally2 is back in tarmac specification for the Dungannon-based event that begins this Friday afternoon with a double run over the Ivy Hill stage.

    IN circuit racing, Ballylickey's Robert Cronin made a good start to the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta Championship in Donington Park where he took a podium position and a fourth place to move into equal second in the series after its opening encounter. On Saturday's 20-minute race Cronin put the Elite Motorsport run Cronin's Centra/Keohane Readymix car on P7 on the 20-car grid and went on to finish fourth.
