MATERIALS AND METHODSMarmosetsMarmosets were pair-housed in spacious holding rooms with environmental control of temperature (23° to 28°C), humidity (40 to 72%), and 12-hour light/dark cycle. Their cages were equipped with a variety of perches and enrichment devices, and they received regular health checks and behavioral assessment from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Division of Comparative Medicine (DCM) veterinary staff and researchers.

MATERIALS AND METHODSAll animals sampled in this study are rhesus macaques (M. mulatta) from the semi-free-ranging colony on the island of Cayo Santiago, Puerto Rico. Maintained by the Caribbean Primate Research Center (CPRC) within the University of Puerto Rico, the Cayo Santiago macaque colony has been largely continuously studied since its founding in 1938 (89).
