Office vacancy rates hit 15.2% in Auckland in the fourth quarter of 2024, and while Wellington and Christchurch both have lower vacancy rates, all three major centres have seen a rise in vacancies recently. While the post-Covid trend towards working from home may be seeing a reversal in the current economic climate, this has – at least in part – been offset by the many businesses seeking to reduce staff numbers.

Over the past 30 years, Auckland’s median house price has climbed from $180,000 in December 1994 to exactly $1,000,000, according to the latest REINZ statistics. That works out to an average annual growth rate of about 5.9%. Not quite doubling every 10 years, but not far off. But the rate of growth is slowing down. Over the last 10 years, the median Auckland house price has increased at just 3.8% per annum, or 45% overall, since 2014. Over the last eight years, since December 2016?

Prendos’ architectural arm – Respond Architects – was recently engaged in the Technical Advisor role for a new classroom block at Rutherford Primary School on Auckland’s Te Atatu Peninsula. Our extensive experience with MoE projects means we have a good understanding of the MoE’s design and technical requirements. We were also selected for our pragmatic approach, and our reputation for excellent technical and QA knowledge. The project comprised a new two-storey, 10 teaching space block.

Although Mike has only been with Prendos since 2022, he has made a significant contribution to the company in his short time as part of the Building Surveying team. Hailing from the UK, Mike has a wealth of project experience behind him, and excels at large, complex projects, along with those involving heritage buildings. He is also an active contributor to training and development as an assessor and mentor for RICS, and head of our graduate development programme.

Mark is the embodiment of our culture of nurturing and training talented people from the ground up. He first joined the company as an architectural graduate in 2010, and went on to successfully complete his architectural registration in 2017, before becoming a Director of Prendos and Respond Architects in 2018. While Bowl Season officially kicked off last Saturday, this week marks the beginning of the bowl games in earnest with games Tuesday through Friday, prior to the playoff Friday evening and continuing through Saturday.
