    The Wilkesboro Town Council tabled action Monday on a business rezoning request that has again drawn the ire of numerous Ridgecrest subdivision residents. The council unanimously voted to delay a ruling on the matter until the town’s planning board could make a recommendation later this month to either approve to deny the requested relocation of the Logger Shop, a heavy machinery and construction equipment company that has operated for 36 years about a quarter mile west of the U.S. 421 parcel.

    Led by Sydney Johnson’s five goals, the East Wilkes soccer team rolled to an 8-1 win over Mount Airy in Ronda on Tuesday. “As the season continues we are not giving up, and we continue to practice hard each day,” said East’s coach, Carrie Vestal. “We work on what is not working and make what is working better.”The Cardinals snapped a five-game losing skid, improving to 6-7 overall and 1-4 in Northwest 1A Conference play. The Granite Bears backslid to 1-7-1 and 1-4.

    The West Wilkes tennis team stayed locked in to first place after sweeping a pro-set doubleheader Tuesday at East Surry in Pilot Mountain. The Blackhawks won 9-0 in both matches to move up to 11-1 overall and 9-0 in Foothills 2A Conference play. The Cardinals backslid to 1-8 and 1-7. In the opener, Angel Martinez, Diego Chavez, Nicholas Kilby, Nathan Call, Andrew Scarbro and Angel Zuniga were all double winners, with Martinez (#1), Chavez (#2) and Scarbro (#5) winning their singles matches 8-0.
