Documenta 16 has announced it will proceed with its next edition in 2027, but without installing a code of conduct for its artistic director. This was among the recommendations set out by Documenta’s appointed expert advisory panel, following the previous iteration’s antisemitism controversy. The exhibition’s past artistic directors recommended a six-member finding committee comprised of international curators to search for its 16th iteration.

Blaise Mandefu Ayawo of Cercle d’Art des Travailleurs de Plantation Congolaise, a collective of plantation workers from the Democratic Republic of Congo that is representing the Netherlands at this year’s Venice Biennale, has died at 55. The artist and eight other members of CATPC travelled to Venice to install and open their exhibition, but Mandefu Ayawo was hospitalised for two weeks before passing away at Venice’s Ospedale dell’Angelo.

American artist Frank Stella has died aged 87, following a battle with lymphoma. Stella was a leading artistic figure in America’s postwar period, pioneering the minimalist artistic movement. The artist’s early Black Paintings (1958–60) – large canvases of geometric pinstripes made from black enamel paint – are often cited by art historical sources as among the first minimalist artworks and were included in Dorothy C.
