This November, Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC) presents a Noirvember series, a celebration of one of cinema’s most iconic and enduring genres: film noir. Running from November 3- 19, the festival offers a journey through the genre’s history, featuring screenings of both classic noir like Mildred Pierce, Murder, My Sweet and Chinatown, and more contemporary films inspired by moody aesthetics and themes of the classics, including Bound and Who Framed Roger Rabbit?.

It may not be surprising to some that several local arts groups are bringing attention to the Mexican celebration of Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, this fall. After all, according to the most recent census report available on Westchester County’s website (2010), there are more than 44,000 Mexican residents living in the county. So it might be safe to say that this holiday is celebrated in many households across the county.

Westchester Poet Laureate Phylisha Villanueva wants to leave no leaf unturned in the county when it comes to creating access to poetry – and a grant from Rockefeller Brothers Fund (RBF) is helping to make that a reality. The Culpeper Arts & Culture Grant aids artists in their creative processes and in the presentation of their work.

Its home may be at Lincoln Center, but one doesn’t need to leave Westchester County to see Paul Taylor Dance Company (PTDC). The modern dance company, one of the most esteemed in America, will perform in the County twice in the coming months – presented once by RiverArts and Tarrytown Music Hall on September 28, and again by Performing Arts Center at Purchase College on February 14.
