BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — There's another full moon this week, the Hunter's supermoon, and it's quite special because it's the biggest and brightest one of all. That's because the moon is closest to the Earth. In fact, the moon will come within 226,000 miles of Earth, significantly closer than at other times in its orbit. As a result, the moon will appear approximately 14% larger and 30% brighter than a typical full moon, creating a striking visual display.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The October Sky is about to light up with two meteor showers and another supermoon sandwiched in between. The Draconids Meteor Shower will peak on October 7. It's a minor meteor shower producing only about 10 meteors per hour. Shooting stars will originate from the constellation Draco in the Northwest but can appear anywhere in the sky away from city lights. For three days you'll be able to see the third supermoon of this year.

Hurricane Milton has rapidly intensified into a Powerful 5 Category Storm with 160mph winds and is moving ESE at 9mph. It will make landfall on the west coast of Florida Wednesday PM-Thursday AM. Milton will maintain its Category 5 status a little while longer. Some wind shear aloft on its approach to Florida may weaken the storm to a Category 3, but a Cat 3 is still a MAJOR HURRICANE. A Hurricane WATCH is posted for much of Florida.

On September 17th, the Full Harvest or Corn Moon will come into view, and this will mark our second Supermoon of the year. And at the same time, a rare partial lunar eclipse will happen. A lunar eclipse occurs when the earth comes between the sun and the moon, casting a shadow on the moon.
