Roanoke, which was first known as Big Lick for the nutritious salt marshes that drew game to the area, was incorporated as a city in 1884, making it one of Virginia’s younger municipalities. At the turn of the twentieth century, some 30 percent of Roanoke’s population was African American.

For those with financial worries, it’s the peace of receiving medical checkups, shoes, and haircuts for the family, all of it free of charge in a festive outdoor setting.

The museum provided an elegant backdrop for the evening and a great opportunity to explore the artwork while enjoying drinks, mingling with friends, and enjoying appetizers. The ambiance was warm and inviting, and Pacific 333 provided the hand-passed hors d’oeuvres which hardly had a chance to make their way out of the kitchen before being devoured by the guests.
