Although I was on campus as a graduate student when Robert Francis Prevost enrolled at Villanova, I cannot claim that we knew each other, or even met. That privilege goes to Villanova’s Father Kevin DePrinzio, O.S.A. who has well known “Bob, Leo XIV” since 1999. It is with a smile that we learned of “Bob, Leo XIV” as “Kev” shared with us during 11:30 am Mass at Saint Margaret Church yesterday, Mother’s Day, May 11.

I remember well when my mother told me to appreciate the time with my first baby. As a mother of eight children, she had earned a unique credibility. I will admit that the enticements to devote myself fully to a career were very strong at times. I decided to go into teaching because I would, as they say, “have the summers off, and holidays,” to spend with my husband Jim and our children.

Today, on the traditional founding date of Ancient Rome, Pope Francis passed away, according to reports, at 7:35 CEST, Monday, April 21. Pope Francis died at the age of 88 years at his residence, the Domus Sanctae Martae in Vatican City. His death was announced by Cardinal Kevin Farrell in a broadcast by Vatican Media and in a video statement at 09:47, two hours after his death. Francis had served as Pope, the head of the Catholic Church, since his election on March 13, 2013.
