This crap is ongoing. Plenty of old posts/”news” are in here… but really, none of this is news. These situations have been building for decades. Mish Talk: When Do Mayor Brandon Johnson and the City of Chicago Finally Implode? Despite the massive stock market boom, the Chicago Firefighters pension is only 21.6 percent funded. Police is 31.1 percent funded. The Teachers’ pension is only 43.4 percent funded.

It looks like we’re getting Trump v. Biden for 2024, as we had for 2020 — and they’re both old guys. The question arises: will they live to see inauguration day? How about living out to the end of a second term? I have done these calculations multiple times before, and I will link prior times I did this at the bottom of this post so you can see how this has (or has not) changed. There are a whole bunch of assumptions that go into calculating survival probabilities.

I have decided to look at infant mortality trends finally, but take notice: this is very different from the usual sorts of older age analysis that I do. In this post, I’m not even going to look at causes of death yet, because they use an entirely different categorization of causes, and I need to check some aspects. Infant mortality is the death rate in the first year of life, but we will see how this breaks out in a moment.

A Westmeath resident has penned a beautiful poem in honour of the late Sinéad O'Connor, whose death was announced yesterday. Like thousands of others across the country, Mary Egan Campbell, who lives in Streamstown, but is originally from Clara in Offaly, was devastated at the news of the acclaimed singer's passing at the age of just 56. Mary described Sinéad O'Connor as the voice of her generation, her hero and a great loss to all.

As I noticed CDC WONDER was updated, it’s time to update ranking tables! For my fellow mortality stat geeks, I will put the details at the end of this post, plus the spreadsheets. The headline result is that COVID dropped to number 4 in the ranking list of top 10 causes of death. So that you can compare, my ranking list has 2018-2022. Just looking at the numbers, you can see heart disease, cancer, and accident deaths increased in 2022 compared to 2021.
