A warring couple’s “high conflict” proceedings involving estimated legal costs of about €500,000 are “a cautionary tale” about the price of family law litigation, a High Court judge has said. The €1.1 million value of the remaining assets of the marriage of less than five years puts the scale of the legal costs “in context”, Mr Justice John Jordan said. He made the comments when upholding the man’s appeal against certain Circuit Court orders made in divorce proceedings.

Compliance by the HSE with its obligations under the Disability Act 2005 involves setting out and implementing “measurable” actions, the court said.

Lawyers for the BBC are seeking a stay on costs and damages orders made in favour of former Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams after he won a defamation action against the broadcaster. The stay is being sought to allow time for the BBC to consider whether to appeal last Friday’s finding by a High Court jury that it defamed Mr Adams by publishing a claim he had sanctioned the murder of a British agent. The jury awarded Mr Adams €100,000 in damages to vindicate and restore his reputation.

An eight-year hell inflicted by Richard Satchwell on the family of his murdered wife Tina was ended by a unanimous jury at the Central Criminal Court with one word: “Guilty”. “Today as a family, we finally have justice for Tina,” her cousin Sarah Howard said after Satchwell was unanimously found guilty of the murder of his wife at their home in March 2017.

Richard Satchwell has been found guilty by a jury at the Central Criminal Court of the murder of his wife at their Co Cork home in 2017. There was audible sobbing from several members of Tina Satchwell’s family as the verdict was given on Friday, with some members of the jury also in tears. Ms Satchwell’s skeletal remains were found in a deep grave in an area under the sittingroom stairs of the couple’s home in October 2023, more than six years after her husband reported her missing.
