Lille Allen/Eater Your precious desserts deserve not just a plate, but a pedestal. I mean, are you really going to toil over the 22 steps it takes to make a prinsesstårta from scratch, only to place your marzipan masterpiece on an (often) unaccommodating, slightly curved plate?

Eater Staff This week’s deals round-up just so happens to fall before Mother’s Day — yes, it’s this Sunday — and while we have been prepping all month for Mom with robust food-obsessed gift guides and last-minute present ideas, the holiday is also just a great excuse to find excellent deals on big ticket items and brands, whether you’re shopping for the mother-like figure in your life or just for yourself.

Eater Staff I can’t pinpoint exactly when Y2K nostalgia became the go-to marketing move for brands, but I would be lying if I said it didn’t work on me, a millennial with a soft spot for HitClips and Cold Stone Creamery.

Eater Staff Mother’s Day gift shopping is, admittedly, a bit of a delusional grail quest. I will never find a scented candle that can equal the very cool gift of, well, life that my own mother gave me — but dammit if I won’t keep trying. (Gwyneth Paltrow is bound to make one at some point, right?) And I have yet to hear “no, honey, I really didn’t like it when you sent me an entire Slavic feast” from my mother when I blast a Veselka care package/feast to California every May.

Eater Staff When did hand soaps get so sophisticated? Perhaps it was inevitable due to the increasingly competitive [tips Monopoly Man top hat] skincare market; it was only a matter of time until I started collecting unique, fragrant, well-packaged hand soaps like Pokémon. But as someone who loves to cook, using a high-quality soap with a nice scent and making sure my hands feel fresh, hydrated, and free of eau de minced garlic or balsamic vinegar feels especially important.

Eater Staff I’m pretty damn picky about the deals I add to cart these days. If I am treating myself to a little something from the sale section of my favorite home decor store, it really has to earn the precious counter (or cabinet) space it will take up in my small Brooklyn apartment; for an excellent example of this, please pay your respects to these eerie yet comforting anthropomorphic tea bag holders I once bargained down at a flea market.

Eater Staff As the Eater team looked back on what we bought and loved for the month of April, I noticed that our best buys fell on both sides of the spectrum: My coworkers are down to become savvy DIYers to save money, but they also recognize the power of a strategic, serotonin-boosting purchase.

Eater Staff Vitamix is one of those powerhouse kitchen appliance brands whose very name — as with Kleenex or The Magic Wand — has become synonymous with its function; if I say “Vitamix,” you think “blender,” and most likely with a Ratatouille-esque synesthesia montage of various fruits and vegetables swirling around its dancing blades. Admittedly, these blenders aren’t always the cheapest, which is why I headed right to the Vitamix aisle during Wayfair’s big Way Day sale.
