Evidence on the economic costs of alcohol-related harms is rarely available to local communities in Australia to enable them to influence alcohol policy decisions at the state and federal level. The costing model reported here represents the first, rigorous, evidence-based model, which is proof-of-concept that the real-life cost impact of alcohol consumption can be calculated for local communities in Australia.
