Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) on April 10 released an operating budget proposal that it said “would require 45% in service cuts—coupled with major fare increases, workforce reductions, and a 9 p.m. curfew for all rail services” to address a deficit forecasted at $213 million for the new fiscal year that starts July 1.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Rep. David Joyce (R-Ohio) on April 10 introduced legislation to target the rise in theft, fraud, and other organized crimes against retail stores and various components of the supply chain across America. The University of Delaware (UD) is seeking presentations for its “Big Data” in Railroad Maintenance Planning 2025 conference, to be held Dec. 10-11, 2025, in Newark, Del. This year’s event “focuses on new and emerging applications of ‘Big Data’ analytics, to include infrastructure and rolling stock maintenance planning and railroad operations,” according to the organizer, UD’s Railroad Engineering and Safety Program, Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering.
