    The family of a man who was murdered at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta filed a lawsuit against the facility last week, and an attorney is out to show that an agreement between the jail and the U.S. Department of Justice to correct life-threatening conditions is not the end of the story. The parents of inmate Leonard Fortner, Terry and Donna Fortner, filed a wrongful-death complaint on April 4 against several county defendants in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.

    Who Got The Work J. Brugh Lower of Gibbons has entered an appearance for industrial equipment supplier Devco Corporation in a pending trademark infringement lawsuit. The suit, accusing the defendant of selling knock-off Graco products, was filed Dec. 18 in New Jersey District Court by Rivkin Radler on behalf of Graco Inc. and Graco Minnesota. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Zahid N. Quraishi, is 3:24-cv-11294, Graco Inc. et al v. Devco Corporation.

    A Georgia jury awarded over $4.2 million last week to an elderly woman bitten by her neighbor's dog in 2020 after the defendant insurer only offered to pay $150,000 for her pain and suffering and future medical expenses to treat infections caused by the bite. After a five-day trial in the Clayton County State Court, the jury entered a verdict Friday in favor of Earnestine Shaw, who was 82 at the time she was attacked by a 130-pound mastiff owned by her neighbor Aaron Smith in Jonesboro, Georgia.

On April 1, Lake County Circuit Judge Jorge L. Ortiz denied the defendants' motions to dismiss claims brought by individuals affected by the Highland Park, Illinois shooting that left seven dead and 48 others injured.
