This week, Congresswoman Plaskett’s (D-VI-AL) HR 1737, the “DiasporaLink Act”, passed through the House of Representatives by voice vote. The Bill, re-introduced in March with her Republican colleague Congressman Russ Fulcher (R-ID-1), requests an assessment of the value, cost, and feasibility of developing a Trans-Atlantic submarine fiber optic cable which will connect the East coast of the United States, via the United States Virgin Islands, with Nigeria and Ghana.

The Coki Point coconut seller who allegedly lost his cool, shouting down a police officer before spraying the officer with fresh coconut water, was released on $50 bail Monday, according to court records. Virgin Islands Police Department Officer Chris M. René said he was following up on reports of unlicensed roadside businesses Wednesday near the popular St. Thomas beach, Coki Point.
