We thank Drs. Tome and Pardi for their editorial on our study examining the association between antibiotic exposure and microscopic colitis (MC) [1]. We appreciate their careful literature review and insightful discussion regarding potential confounding factors that may influence the observed relationship between drug exposures and MC.

1 Introduction Microscopic colitis (MC) is a chronic inflammatory condition of the colon that predominantly affects older adults [1]. The condition is characterised by watery, non-bloody diarrhoea, which may significantly worsen the quality of life [2, 3]. Concerns about drug-induced MC have emerged [4, 5], prompting pharmacoepidemiologic studies on the subject [6].
