The main selling point of Mekkablood: Quarry Assault to me is its UI. A dirty, greasy mecha cockpit obstructing the majority of the screen is a clever way of presenting an old-school shooter in a different aspect ratio without sacrificing the screen space provided by the modern, larger resolutions. Unfortunately, I once again had to face the sad truth that one cool idea does not a good game make. Regardless of this cool perspective, Mekkablood is just a completely dull experience.

Bioware is my favorite video game developer—a fact I realized just this year, having finished the Dragon Age trilogy. For four years straight I would replay the entire Mass Effect trilogy once a year, until the release of the Legendary Edition, when I replayed it twice. This leaves only Neverwinter Nights, Shattered Steel, MDK2, and, of course, Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood on the list of their games that I have yet to beat.

Bright. Warm. Delicious. Lazy. When it comes to capturing the best collective memories of summer vacation, nobody does it like Japan. There always existed a penchant for slower, simpler, routine-based games in the east, be that farming sims or visual novels, but I think their recent resurgence into public consciousness in the west can be attributed to the new wave of appreciation for PlayStation’s classic Boku no Natsuyasumi, sparked by Tim Rogers’ excellent video.

A TV spot for Venom: The Last Dance has revealed the strangest of all the symbiotic creations seen to date. The threequel is proud to present, as seen in the clip further below, the Venom frog. Not a typo, the venom frog. The trouble is, the frog should not look as adorable as it does. Or is that just me?

George R.R. Martin has visited the set of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, the latest spin-off attached to the Game of Thrones universe, and despite only viewing a “rough cut” of the first episode, has revealed his love for the series. “Dunk and Egg – Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell, respectively – looked as if they just walked out of the pages of my book, and the chemistry between them was just perfect,” Martin revealed in an entry on his blog.
