So let’s deal with that first. Like it or not, it is a Capri. Not the long-bonneted two-door coupe ‘you always promised yourself’ back in the 1980s. But an all-new car to which Ford has applied that famous name. People have fond memories of the old Capri.

Electric cars cost almost a third less in servicing bills than petrol or diesel models, according to new data. Research by The Car Expert and Clear Vehicle Data shows that over five years, EV service costs are on average 29% lower than those for ICE models, saving owners hundreds of pounds in running costs. Using manufacturers’ own service schedules, the study looked at the servicing plans of more than 600 new and nearly new models across a wide variety of sizes and body styles.

UK order books have opened for the all-new Mercedes CLA, with prices for the sleek EV starting at £45,615. The new all-electric model is on sale now, with first customer deliveries expected in the autumn. A 48V petrol/electric hybrid will join the range later in the year. From launch, the Mercedes CLA is available in three trim levels – Sport Edition, AMG Line Edition and AMG Line Premium Edition.

Audi has revealed its new A6 e-hybrid quattro, promising more than 60 miles of all-electric range from the plug-in hybrid model. Joining the all-electric A6 e-tron, petrol and mild-hybrid diesel models in saloon and estate variants, the A6 e-hybrid quattro will open for orders in June, with first customer deliveries later in the summer. The all-new plug-in hybrid uses a 2.0-litre petrol engine mated to a 105kW electric motor that is integrated into the housing of the seven-speed DSG transmission.

EV battery health has made ‘remarkable’ progress in the last 10 years and mileage is of ‘minimal’ relevance to long-term degradation according to a new report. The latest data from battery health specialists Generational shows that in the last decade, battery technology has improved significantly, with batteries now retaining 10% more of their usable capacity at the same mileage. The latest testing compared vehicles from 2016/17 with those from 2022/23.
