Alpine’s next generation A110 EV will pack more than 500bhp and a near-400-mile range into a car little larger than the current model, according to the brand’s CEO Philippe Krief. Speaking to UK media at the unveiling of the new A390 SUV, Krief revealed the first technical details of the all-electric rival to the Porsche Cayman, hinting at next-gen powertrain technology and promising a kerb weight below its petrol-powered competitors.

Ford Ireland has announced a new charger promotion to help cut the costs of switching to an EV. The Blue Oval in the Republic of Ireland has teamed up with ChargeGuru to offer new EV buyers a new home wallbox and installation for free through Ford’s Power Promise. The move comes weeks after the brand launched the EV promotion in Northern Ireland, where drivers can get a home charger fitted for just £10.

The UK Government has scrapped the need for planning permission to install EV charge points. Future of Roads Minister, Lilian Greenwood, confirmed that from May 29, homeowners and businesses will no longer need to submit a planning application to install public or private EV sockets. She said that by cutting red tape the Government hoped to speed up the roll-out of chargers around the UK and ensure it hit the target of having 300,000 devices installed by 2030.

The Alpine A390 has been officially revealed for the first time, with the French manufacturer targeting the segment-leading Porsche Macan with its new all-electric crossover. Intended as the second car in Alpine’s “Dream Garage” the five-door, five-seat fastback sits between the A290 hatchback and the upcoming all-electric A110. Described as a “race car in a suit,” the Alpine A390 is positioned to go head-to-head with the Porsche Macan.
