Along with the swamp tours, the butterfly house, the nearly 4 miles of trails and the swamparium, something new is offered at Cypress Gardens: A new splash pad opened May 31. “It’s a great way for families to come out and cool off in the summer,” said Heather McDowell, parks and recreation director in Berkeley County. “Everyone knows South Carolina can be very hot in the summer.”The pad will add to the park’s growing interest.

The Charleston Regional Aviation Authority announced Friday, May 29, that it will manage and operate the Berkeley County Airport off Whitesville Road in Moncks Corner. According to the agreement, Berkeley County will lease the 236-acre site to Charleston Regional Aviation Authority starting July 1. Berkeley County Supervisor Johnny Cribb said the decision will benefit the county residents and staff.

Several are on the streets in neighborhoods and around cities, and now another law affects golf cart drivers. A new South Carolina law requires all children under the age of 12 to wear a seatbelt while riding in a golf cart. The Goose Creek Police Department announced that officers will issue warnings for these seatbelt violations for the next 30 days to help spread awareness. After this grace period, citations may be issued for violations.
