Thousands of revelers from near and far will gather in the Historic French Quarter this week for the annual French Quarter Fest, a free, four-day celebration of Louisiana music, food, and culture, running from Thursday to Sunday. The festival will feature more than 300 musical acts across 22 stages, 70 food vendors, and special events, including its “After Dark” concert series, a parade, free dance lessons and more.

A cohort of 21 survivors and relatives of victims killed in the New Year’s Day truck attack is suing city officials, accusing them of failing to take the appropriate safety precautions before the incident, despite knowing the French Quarter was vulnerable to an attack for nearly a decade. It’s the second legal case filed since the attack on Jan. 1, when an army veteran drove a Ford F-150 pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street, killing 14 people and injuring dozens more.

New Orleans’ party scene will ramp up in just a few weeks when sports fans from around the country descend on the city for the Super Bowl. Thousands will pack the Caesars Superdome to watch the game, which is scheduled to kick off at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 9. Grammy winner Kendrick Lamar is set to perform at halftime. Other big names, like Post Malone, Shaquille O’Neal, and Diplo, will be in town to headline and host concerts and parties throughout the week.

The New Orleans Police Department has hired former New York City Police Commissioner William Bratton to review the city’s security plans and harden it against future attacks after last week’s deadly rampage on Bourbon Street. At a city council hearing on Wednesday, New Orleans Chief Anne Kirkpatrick said she'll work closely with Bratton over the coming months. “He is here to serve all of us,” she said. “This is a community endeavor.
