    The Chancellor has confirmed that a long-awaited pay rise for NHS workers in England is set to be announced within days. It comes after a report by the NHS Independent Pay Review Body (NHSPRB) was significantly delayed by late commissioning and subsequently the general election. According to the Times newspaper, the NHSPRB has told the government a 5.5% pay rise is recommended for around 1.3 million NHS staff. A figure significantly higher than the 3% the previous government had budgeted for.

In the wake of an upcoming election, the leader of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) has urged immediate negotiations to avoid a six-month delay in NHS nurse pay increase.
