When you think of the coveted Palme d’Or award for the best film at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, you probably think of highbrow, fancy-pants art movies that break new ground, introduce deep ideas, and push cinema in new directions. So, you might not think of movies about strippers from Brooklyn. But there you have it. “Anora” got the prize. Surprises abound. Anora “Ani” Mikheeva (Mikey Madison) is said stripper. She’s poor, but she works for the rich — at an upscale strip club in Manhattan.

Animals must often be baffled by technology. Just imagine the first time a bird saw an airplane. Or a rocket, or a drone, or even a telephone wire. Imagine a whale coming across a submarine. Or a squirrel a car. Animals adapt, they deal — it’s what they do (or else they go extinct). Even so, tech must often be pretty confusing (and terrifying) to them. It usually doesn’t make sense to consider the flip side — that is, how tech feels about the natural world. That’s because tech doesn’t feel anything.

Some movies don’t stand the test of time. For example, “Wayne’s World,” “The Blind Side,” “Crash” and “Shakespeare in Love.” Other movies live on. Sadness can suck. But it isn’t all bad. In fact, it can be kind of beautiful. It may not look it, at first, but closer inspection can reveal grace, poignancy and important connections to love. Anxiety is another feeling that may not look too good at first. It can suck, too – or seem to. I’ve got a solution to toxic masculinity! The good news is, it’s easy. We don’t have to do a whole lot. We don’t even have to address the toxicity per se – the machismo, the egoism, the subjugation, the harassment, the violence and so forth. It’s simpler. All we have to do is make women do it too. Put them in those roles. Make them mean, and vengeful. You know, like men. Then voila. Problem solved. Battle won. Patriarchy smashed. OK, I’m being sarcastic. But “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” isn’t.
