I briefly had a new Porsche 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 in white for the weekend and I was reminded that Porsche still has the one feature that I rarely see on any car. A feature so great and so useful that it should honestly be the norm on every vehicle offered for sale. Why is that? I’m not sure, maybe Porsche has a patent on it, but it seems unlikely. Part of being an automotive journalist is that you get cars to borrow and, admittedly, some of the features can kind of blur together.

Last year, we challenged 200 of you to get a new Autopian membership with the promise of buying an Aztek and living in it. You held up your end of the bargain, so we bought an Aztek, and David spent a week sleeping in it. This year, we want to do something bigger, both physically and emotionally.

Here’s some fun, non-tariff news to end the week. The two hosts of YouTube car sensation Throttle House and that one charming guy on Twitter who loves trains will reportedly be the new trio to helm Amazon car show The Grand Tour. That’s nice. What else is good news for this month-ending Morning Dump? Inventory levels are down across the industry as strong sales continue in the car space. Is this tariff related? Yeah, it’s a little tariff-related.

If I lived to be 5,000 years old, I think I’d still be learning things about cars built before I was old enough to be able to drive. The mass production of the automobile was probably humanity’s defining industrial achievement for at least the first half of the 20th century. For instance, for all my love of Škoda, I had no idea why the Favorit looks like the Favorit.

The original headline for today’s installment of The Morning Dump was going to be “No One Knows Anything.” That’s because, really, no one knows anything. There is no strategy, only tactics, and at best a vague idea of the outcomes the current administration wants. As an observer, I can only make guesses, but as an observer, I’m also struck by the notion that the primary decision makers are also only making guesses.
