Our first show was with [The] Bad Luck 13 [Riot Extravaganza] in Wilkes-Barre, [Pennsylvania]. We opened, they borrowed our drum kit, chaos broke out, and someone ended up getting hit with a fire extinguisher. The cops were called. Pretty great first show, if you ask us. We dove into writing and playing as many shows as possible and, eventually, signed with Too Damn Hype Records to record our first full-length, Through Our Ears, Through Our Hearts [2001].

I recently randomly stumbled upon The Halfpipes while doing some digital sleuthing and Spotify research (shout-out to the algorithm!) for my ever-evolving Black Punk/Hardcore Long-player: Then, Now, Adjacent & inspired By and Brown Punk/Hardcore: Then, Now, Adjacent & Inspired By playlists. I reached out via email and eventually got in touch with one Travis Street, who acts as The Halfpipes’ sometimes producer and sometimes career advisor/mentor, who got me in contact with the band members.

Dangerfield: Doing a genre that not a lot of people are doing right now, especially, people who look like us. VI.

Recently showcased within my staggering 284-hour Black Punk/Hardcore Long-player: Then, Now, Adjacent & Inspired By Spotify playlist, Rebelmatic is a genre-defying force in the New York City music scene. Since about 2009, they’ve seamlessly been blending the raw energy of hardcore punk with the groove of funk, the soul of hip-hop, and the weight of social consciousness.

Pissed Jeans are a Philly-based troupe, who make Hardcore Punk, Noise Rock, Post-hardcore, and/or Pigf**k music, if you’re really Chester Cheetah levels of cool. I’ve seen The Jeans (what us cool cats often call Pissed Jeans) at a few charismatically dirty, dingey hole-in-the-wall Philly venues a number over the years.
