    This week, Matt Lantz, BCI’s Senior Vice President for Market Access, and Kam Quarles, CEO of the National Potato Council, traveled to Tokyo to work on fresh potato market access to Japan. They meet with officials in the US Embassy to strategized on how to open the Japanese market for US potatoes. Although Japan imports over $300 million worth of U.S. fries, fresh table stock potatoes are prohibited.

    From September 29-October 5, Matt Lantz, BCI’s Senior Vice President for Global Access, hosted a delegation of officials from the Thai Department of Agriculture to review the apple industries in Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. The goal of the trip was to open the Thai market for apples from these states. The Thai officials asked about growing practices, pest management procedures, certifications, and trace back policies. The delegation left pleased by what they had seen.

    On Thursday, BCI's Matt Lantz joined Idaho Governor Brad Little for a tour of Idaho potato farms. This visit coincided with a foreign delegation visiting the state as part of expanded market access efforts. Throughout the week, BCI participated in various meetings related to this initiative. For 25 years, Bryant Christie Inc. has supported the U.S. potato industry with its foreign policy needs opening markets such as Japan, Mexico, China, Taiwan, and Korea.
