For the first time since 2022, things won’t be so simple in the moments leading up to the NHL Draft’s No. 1 selection. There was no screwing up the Connor Bedard Draft for the Chicago Blackhawks in 2023. Same goes for the San Jose Sharks with Macklin Celebrini in 2024; GM Mike Grier even pre-announced he was taking Celebrini. But in the hours before the the New York Islanders and new GM Mathieu Darche step to the podium June 27 in Los Angeles, will they hesitate?

I can’t imagine what it feels like to be a Carolina Hurricanes fan right now. Forget the 0-15 losing streak in Conference Final games for a moment. Some of those defeats came as far back as 2008-09, when Paul Maurice, their current playoff opponent’s head coach, was behind the Carolina bench. The team has changed many times over since then.

Last week, we bid four more teams farewell as Round 2 of the Stanley Cup playoffs wrapped up. Each of the clubs eliminated – the Toronto Maple Leafs, Vegas Golden Knights, Washington Capitals and Winnipeg Jets – enjoyed a strong season. But which of the Round 2 loser teams are you most worried about for 2025-26? MATT LARKIN: It’s the Washington Capitals for me. Everything about their tremendous season screams regression to me. I count eight or nine players on the 2024-25 team who had career years.

"Flush it down the toilet." After the utter humiliation of Game 5, the #LeafsForever's season and perhaps the roster's future are on the brink of oblivion. My story on the loss to the Panthers, Toronto's worst playoff margin of defeat in 21 years: https://t.co/BYRYsI1bvI

With Robertson making it 6-1, the margin of defeat is now "only" the Leafs' worst in a playoff game in 21 years. Would've been 37 if the 6-0 score held

In case you're wondering: The Leafs have lost by bigger margins than this in a playoff game. But, uh, not since 1988, when the Red Wings beat them 8-0.
