Benjamin Kamperman had a pair of top finishes, placing third in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4 minutes, 50.43 seconds and also took fifth in the 800. Brisen Lewis was sixth in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 24.80, and also placed 12th in the 100. Mauricio finished third in the triple jump and seventh in the 400.

    All week, the Montrose High School girls basketball team and coach Steve Skiff talked about visualizing the ball going in the basket. After a season of grinding out 19 victories mostly on the defensive end, they saw their first-round Class 5A playoff matchup with Discovery Canyon as a chance to do damage on the offensive end. The Red Hawks reached a season-high point total, as did Mayce Oberg with her 32 points, as No. 9 Montrose beat the No. 24 Thunder 61-50 to advance in the postseason.

    While Trevor Piatt didn’t quite reach the pinnacle Saturday when competing for Olathe High School during the Colorado state wrestling championships, he did turn in one of the most dramatic victories of the morning session.     Isaiah Gordon and Elijah Gordon turned in more stellar scoring efforts as the Olathe High School boys basketball team went 1-2 this past week. The Pirates’ victory came on Tuesday against Cedaredge, where Isaiah Gordon dropped in 22 points and overcame a tough shooting night by converting at the free-throw line.     Building on a string of strong performances, the Olathe High School boys wrestling team finished seventh during The Fight at the Fork in Hotchkiss on Saturday. Trevor Piatt was the champion at 126 pounds, winning all his matches by pin. His first three pins to reach the championship occurred in the first period, then he pinned North Fork’s Tate Fister early in the third period.
