Congregation Beth Yeshurun’s cemetery on Allen Parkway was vandalized in what police are looking into as a possible hate crime. The incident happened in the middle of the day, Friday, March 21, and included shattered flower pots, knocked-over headstones and broken irrigation pipes and hose bibs. Groundskeeper Jose Ramirez discovered the damage when he returned to close the gates at 5 p.m. Beth Yeshurun officials said the damage is estimated to be close to $10,000.

Among the thousands of runners taking part in the 2025 Chevron Houston Marathon weekend, Aden Opperer definitely stood out in the crowd. Opperer was one of the youngest participants in the full marathon and finished first in the 12-15 age group with a time of 3:29:00. While the bib number on the front of his shirt was recorded as a top-finisher, it was the message on the back of his shirt that many people will remember.

Star power: Beren girls basketball team finishes perfect season on court Robert M. Beren Academy’s boys basketball program has made national headlines over the years for its success and resilience both on and off the court. In 2025, however, the school’s young girls team is the one stealing the spotlight. Beren’s middle school girls team finished an amazing undefeated season with a 24-16 win over The Honor Roll School on Jan. 28.
