We're just past the quarter mark of the 2025 season, which means it's time to hand out some team grades based on what's unfolded thus far. This is no way predictive and the grades assigned aren't meant to suggest that a given team will continue playing as they have thus far. Broadly speaking, these grades reflect performance to date in the context of preseason expectations. Exceed expectations, and you'll get high marks. Fall well short of them, and you'll get branded with a D or F.

The Rockies on Sunday won a game, but still fired manager Bud Black after an abysmal 7-33 start. They're on pace to end up with the worst record in Major League Baseball history and they've already had three separate eight-game losing streaks. As such, it shouldn't be all too shocking that the manager got his walking papers. Still, Black is a very respected man in the game and there were bound to be some strong feelings.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are bringing top prospect Jordan Lawlar back to the majors, reports the Arizona Republic. The 22-year-old Lawlar has been in the majors before. He appeared in 14 games late in 2023 and then also saw very limited action on the roster in the NLDS, NLCS and World Series that same season.

We never quite got that four-team race in the AL Central we were promised in 2024. When the Twins were hanging around, the Tigers weren't in the race. When the Tigers got hot, the Twins fell apart. By the end, the Guardians had pulled away. To illustrate, on Aug. 17, the Guardians had a two-game lead over the Twins with the Royals just four back. The Tigers, through, were 12.5 out. By Aug.

Given that we're now in the second week of May, there's already been one manager fired (the Pirates axed Derek Shelton) and that the Orioles have been the most disappointing team in baseball this season, the speculation about Orioles manager Brandon Hyde's job security has been getting louder by the loss. They've lost six of seven heading into Sunday and there's a day off before a six-game homestand starts on Tuesday. It might feel like a natural spot for a change.

The Dodgers are 26-14 this season, sitting in a virtual tie atop the NL West with the Padres. One issue they've had is starting pitching injuries. Among them would be the rehabbing-while-hitting Shohei Ohtani. He's continuing to try and work his way back to the mound what has been a relatively slow build. Ohtani still hasn't pitched for the Dodgers. He's been a DH and has been exceptional in doing so, winning the 2024 MVP as part of the World Series champions and he's the WAR leader this season.

Might the Colorado Rockies make sweeping changes amid a historically awful start to the 2025 season? It doesn't sound like general manager Bill Schmidt is ready to take that sort of approach. In comments made before Saturday night's game against the Padres, Rockies general manager Bill Schmidt seemed to maintain a mostly positive tone and said he isn't quite ready to do something like fire manager Bud Black.
