One of the most intriguing and enigmatic of great Irish people is a man only known to us as Iohannis Scotti, or Eriugena. Both names merely signify that he was Irish, his real name or what part of Ireland he was born in, are a mystery. He was born here sometime between 800 and 825AD and his Irish nationality is confirmed not just by the name by which he was known, but the fact that he used Gaelic script in his glosses on his manuscripts.

Yesterday, The Times of Israel reported that the Israeli cabinet had met and decided that not only were military operations against Hamas to be intensified in a planned ‘Operation Gideon’s Chariots’ but that Israel intended to retain all territory taken and basically occupy Gaza and put an end to it as an independent entity. That will involve removing all Palestinians who still remain in Gaza.

The Irish Left – which largely lives in an imaginary mystical Lollipop land where the clock stopped in 1936 in a Disney fantasy scene taken from a Christy Moore ballad – is fond of cliches.
