Credit: Randy Sartin-Imagn Images There was nothing major on the NASCAR penalty report from over the weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway beyond one Xfinity Series loose or unsecured post-race lug nut infraction. Justin Allgaier, crew chief Jim Pohlman and the JR Motorsports No. 7 team was hit with a $5000 fine for the offense. As per section 8.8.10.4a in the NASCAR Rule Book, this infraction was met with a $5000 fine to the organization.

NASCAR Executive Vice President of Competition Elton Sawyer appeared on SiriusXM Radio on Tuesday and told fans to be patient regarding the current state of short track racing after a generally uneventful race on Sunday at Bristol Motor Speedway. Sawyer also continued to state that the answer is going to have to come through the tire compound, despite recent comments from Denny Hamlin once again suggesting the NextGen car has a flawed design.

This will be a challenge of a week to read into anything when it comes to NASCAR television ratings. For one, The Masters dominated the landscape with 12.99 million viewers tuning in to watch Rory McIlroy pursue his first career green jacket. There was also no direct NASCAR ratings comparison point because this race was on FS1 and the previous Bristol spring race was on over-the-air FOX and had 3.809 million viewers.

It’s not the first time Denny Hamlin has said so but he once again reiterated on his Actions Detrimental podcast that the current NASCAR Cup Series car suffers from a design flaw that continues to negatively affect the way it races. This comes after a generally uneventful race at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sunday where Kyle Larson led 411 of 500 laps en route to his second win of the season.

In addition to dominating the NASCAR Cup Series race to the tune of leading 414 out of 500 laps, Kyle Larson also enjoyed a dominant performance in the Xfinity Series the day before with 277 laps led of 300 en route to winning the race. While speaking with Kevin Harvick on the Happy Hours show, Larson said he especially enjoys dropping down to the second-tier division and winning the way he frequently does.
